Before going toTanzania

Vaccinations
Twinrix, gold fever, tetanus, polio, Etec against cholera and tourist diarrhea.
Malaria prophylaxis
Malarone is definitely to prefer, there are far too many side-effects with Lariam.
Passport
Should be valid for 6 months and have 2 pages untouched for the visa.
Hand luggage (maximum 5 kg)
Try not to pack too many liquids. Containers with liquid must not hold more than 1 dl and the liquids in total has to fit in a 1 liter plastic bag.
Small bag for carrying water bottles, thermos, camera and other things that might be of use during the day when we have gotten there.
Small waist bag to keep air tickets, passport, 50 USD for buying the visa, 30 USD for the airport tax in Zanzibar, credit cards and travel currency (100 USD in cash). You ought to bring a certificate for the vaccinations, the so-called “yellow card” with stamps for among other things gold fever and hepatitis A (Twinrix) as well. It is good to bring the card for travelling abroad you can get from your insurance company containing telephone numbers in case of emergency.
Remember that your camera, movies, batteries, mobile phones, charger and those kinds of things has to be kept in the hand luggage during the flights. The best thing is to bring a mobile phone without subscription so that you can buy a telephone card when we get there. To call home will in that case cost you 4 SEK/minute. The malaria medicine should also be brought in the hand luggage.
The remaining things might be sunglasses, wallet, a cap or similar to protect you from the sun, can opener, a small torch, and binoculars.
Check in baggage (maximum 20 kg)
Hard or soft bag is your choice, both works. A hard bag with a lock is good to keep valuables in.
Knives, scissors and other sharp metallic objects have to be checked in.
Clothing that stands washing and ironing
Long-sleeved shirts/jumpers that protect you from mosquitoes at night but are not too warm, warm sweater, trousers and/or dresses and/or skirts that are not too tight and that reach below your knee, shorts, short-sleeved T-shirts/shirts, nightgown/big T-shirt, panties/underpants, socks, bathing suits, a small towel. There will be the opportunity to wash at Tazengwa for a small fee.
Shoes that are pleasant to walk in such as sandals that you can walk with in the sand and can be used with socks, gym shoes or other (cotton)shoes that will not be too hot, maybe bathing shoes.
Other things as a notebook, pen, addresses, a copy of your passport, a roll of toilet-paper, washing liquid, thick 3-liter plastic bags (there will be lots of things to bring home), a plastic jug, teaspoon, thermos for hot water to make coffee/tea. Teabags and instant coffee might come in handy.
Concerning electricity Swedish electrical outlets are available in Ngaramtoni and Tazengwa. The system for electricity is built by Swedes. But in the parks and at Zanzibar what is used is the “three hole” outlet, as in England. That is solved African style by using a pen so that the contact fits.
Toilet bag with your toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo, hairbrush, sunprotection, sanitary towels, “Malarone” (for malaria), “Mygga” roll-on (protection against mosquitoes), hydrocortisone cream (for itching), “Travello” (diarrhea), plasters, Alvedon (painkiller) and other medicines (“Trevis” is an herbal medicine for diarrhea).
Hand disinfection is important since it makes your hygiene a lot better and helps the stomach.
